Structure taught
- Recognition: who You are (mercy first; attributes grouped as mercy, power, and presence)
- Confession: what I have done (sins described by their effects; gratitude for past kindness used as evidence)
- Hope: why I can still hope (an argument from God's generosity; the hinge line moves from fear to love)
- Transformation: who I want to become ("all my devotions one single devotion")
- Closing: "do with me what You are worthy of", which bookends the opening
It ends with a five-step study method: map from memory, track where you are, ask "why is this here?", one line a week, explain it in a minute.
Rebuild
Requirements: Python 3, pip install edge-tts (needs network access), ffmpeg, a Chrome/Chromium binary, and the Amiri and Inter fonts installed.
CHROME=/path/to/chrome OUT=build python3 make.py # writes build/dua-kumayl.mp4 and build/all.srt
Narration and slides are both defined in the BEATS list in make.py. Edit a beat and rerun. Unchanged narration is cached in OUT.
Review notes
- The English translations and commentary are paraphrases written for this video, not a scholarly translation. Have someone who knows the text check the religious meaning.
- The voice is Microsoft Edge TTS
en-US-AndrewNeural. Only the teaching style follows Justin Sung, not his voice. - The video explains the dua. It does not recite it in full.
